Please state your full name, age, location and business name;
Karuna Clayton, born in Canterbury but now I live in London. My business is called Karuna Clayton Photography.
What is your business?
A photographer from the age of 15, today I create timeless and elegant food, interiors and product photography for some of the UK’s biggest brands and companies here and internationally.
What inspired you to start your business?
My foray into the Dark room aged fifteen was an inevitability given a childhood where weekend private views of family exhibitions and days spent in studios at the bottom of neighbour’s gardens, were a norm.
What has been your greatest business achievement?
A creative brain storm with a friend led to my decision to propose a free photoshoot for gift bible Handpicked Collection. The brand agreed, were delighted with the resulting shots and within twelve hours this small-town girl found herself in the warehouse of media conglomerate News UK, snapping their collection. The winning shots were distributed to tens of thousands. I also have shot multiple food and interiors features for The Times, Sunday Times and the Guardian.
How is your business contributing to your community or society?
True fulfilment comes with empowering small businesses by educating them around the power of imagery and its ability to make or break a business. Giving some credence to the idea that our name can come to define our person, the Indian meaning for Karuna is compassion, and it was indeed a desire to support courageous startups in their personal business success, that inspired the entrepreneur to launch her startup offer making superb photography accessible on a budget. I am inspired by the global movement of millennials making their passion their business and I am keen to support their mission.
